Jupiter conjunct Neptune all summer of 2009

Jupiter will catch up with and conjunct Neptune in Aquarius in May of 2009, and stay conjunct it all summer. This can be great for the spiritually evolved, but not great for those with serious drinking and drug problems. Jupiter (good fortune, expansion, excess) will combine itself with Neptune (liquids (including oil), drugs, escapism, film, and higher spiritual realms). There hasn't been a Jupiter conjunction to Neptune while in Aquarius (groups) in our lifetime.

The last one was in November, 1843. For those of you who love strange coincidences - that one had Neptune and Jupiter conjunct at exactly 18'43" of Aquarius. Year and degree the same. Very strange! But that last time, in 1843, the conjunction was over in a flash and didn't last very long. This time Jupiter will go retrograde after it passes Neptune, and go back to cross it two more times.

1843 was the year the first great wagon train left Independence, Missouri for Oregon along the great Oregon Trail. Large group (Aquarius) meets the other large body of liquid (Pacific Ocean). It was the year the first iron steamship crossed the Atlantic. (Another large group going across liquid). We saw the first long-distance telegraph line, the first patented typewriter, and minstrel groups (Neptune rules religious music too). The first minstrel group was probably the Virginia Minstrels, who performing in 1843 in New York City (Wikipedia). (Jupiter-expansion of Neptune-music). The Liberty Party held its convention in Buffalo, New York, and becomes the first political party to openly welcome African Americans to participate (from: thehistorymakers.com).

The last Jupiter Neptune conjunction in another sign was January 9, 1997 at 27 degrees Capricorn. That year there was record flooding (Jupiter-too much of Neptune-water) in Northern California, as well as major floods in the Ohio River Valley, the Red River in Grand Forks, and Fort Collins, Colorado.

Another Jupiter Neptune conjunction in Aquarius occurred in 1191. That was the year Richard the Lionhearted took the city of Acre in Israel in the third crusade. This was important for the survival of the crusader kingdoms. "It reversed the trend of conquest, and marked the beginning of a new period of crusader success, as well as becoming the new capitol of the crusader kingdom. Symbolically, Acre was the last crusader possession in Palestine, finally falling in 1291, one hundred years after the end of the siege." from:

To play it safe, I recommend everyone purchase flood insurance for 2009. I also suggest that officials hurry up and make sure tsunami warning systems are installed by summer. Religious or ideological fervor could easily run rampant over the summer. In fact, large political movements will have plenty of energy. It should make for an exciting summer in 2009.

  1. Just a point of clarification: Jupiter revolves through the zodiac every 12 years, spending approximately one year in each sign. Ergo, Jupiter conjuncts Neptune once every twelve years.

This is a scientific info and thanks for letting your readers know... I just dont know though if that eans flood all over the world or in selected countries/continents only?

  3. Tessa, you forget that during those 12 years of Jupiter's orbit, Neptune is also moving forward (by almost a full zodiac sign). Therefore it takes a little extra time than a normal Jupiter orbit for the conjunction to occur.

  4. With the Trans-Saturnian planets in play, one really needs to also look at trends over time. Neptune (social upheaval), Jupiter (rulership) and Aquarius (society) make a potent mix.

While I have not really looked at the other aspects of the period, I would suggest that the 1843 conjunction stirred the pot in a way that led to the Revolutions of 1848.

This summer, politics, society and religion are undergoing a big upheaval in Iran - I would expect to see this develop in a way that empowers the individual over a "fatalistic" regime (as the Sun is currently in opposition to Pluto as these matters unfold - with Uranus approximately square to both).

Also, look at the role of global communications in current affairs there, as Mercury breezes through its home sign of Gemini, challenging Saturn in its other home of Virgo.

I agree that trouble from water will also be a keynote this season, and my hunches feel like this could be a bad year for hurricanes on the Outer Banks and Bermuda. We'll see.
